Bangladesh-Egypt for strengthening bilateral ties

Bangladesh and Egypt have affirmed their commitment to bolstering bilateral relations through the establishment of regular foreign office consultations.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the 15th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Gambia, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry engaged in discussions encompassing various areas of mutual interest. These included strategies to enhance trade and investment between the two nations and addressing the Rohingya crisis.
In the course of the meeting, Bangladesh Foreign Minister proposed the implementation of mutual visa exemption and the expansion of trade with Egypt. The Egyptian foreign minister expressed initial agreement in principle towards signing an agreement concerning diplomatic and official visa exemption.
Furthermore, the Egyptian foreign minister pledged full governmental support for the construction of the Chancery building for the Bangladesh mission in Egypt, reinforcing the commitment to facilitating diplomatic infrastructure.
Subsequently, Deemah Al Yahya, Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO), paid a courtesy visit to Hasan Mahmud. During the meeting, Al Yahya informed the Foreign Minister about the ongoing efforts among DCO member states to draft an agreement titled "Multilateral AI Agreement" aimed at governing the international use of Artificial Intelligence.
