Vote boycott becomes a cause of concern for parties in Tripura

The recent decision by some citizens to boycott voting has sparked concern among political parties in India's Tripura.

Rajib Bhattacharjee the BJP State President, emphasized the importance of development and citizen participation in the electoral process. He noted that while voting is a fundamental aspect of democracy, citizens also have the right to protest through various means.

Paul Dangshu, a senior leader of TIPRA Motha and MLA, expressed surprise at the vote boycott, suggesting that it may have been influenced by individuals who have failed to deliver results over the past 25 years and have misled the public.
Sudip Roybarman, a senior Congress leader and MLA, highlighted the significance of voting in a democratic society, noting that boycotting undermines the essence of democracy.
Pabitra Kar, a veteran CPI-M leader and former minister, acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the boycott and attributed it to the government's failure to provide basic amenities such as roads, water, and electricity.
Biswajit Das, a prominent civil society member and rights activist, pointed out the discrepancy between India's high literacy rate and the continued reliance on symbols rather than evaluating manifestos and past promises during elections. He warned against the decline in voter turnout and the increasing influence of party cadres, emphasizing the need for voters to scrutinize manifestos for practicality before casting their votes.
