5.7 km of Bangladesh\`s 6 km-long Padma Bridge completed
Engineers of China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co_ Ltd (MBEC) have successfully installed the 38th span of Bangladesh's Padma Bridge. The 3_140-ton span was placed between pillar-1 and pillar-2 on Saturday_ Dewan Md Abdul Kader_ manager of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project from the Bangladesh Bridge Authority told on Sunday. With the installation of the 150-meter long span_ he said 5_700 meters of the bridge is now visible. Earlier_ the 37th span was installed on pillars 9 and 10 on Nov. 12. Out of the total 41 spans_ only three spans are now left to be installed to make the whole 6.15-km bridge visible. One more span is slated to be installed this month_ while the rest will be installed by next month_ said Quader. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the main works of Padma Bridge project_ the biggest of its kind in the country_ in December 2015. Apart from connecting nearly 30 million people in Bangladesh's southwest region to the rest of the country_ the bridge will enhance regional trade and collaboration along the Asian highway No. 1 and the Trans-Asian railway network. -Xinhua News
