Ursula von pledges enhanced cooperation with Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina’s new term

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed her commitment to advancing cooperation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, aiming to further strengthen the ties between the European Union (EU) and Bangladesh in the upcoming years.

In a congratulatory letter to Premier Hasina on her recent re-appointment, President von der Leyen stated, "The European Union is dedicated to collaborating with Bangladesh on sustainable development, climate change, migration, and other issues of mutual interest."
Recalling their meeting in Brussels in 2023 during the Global Gateway Forum, President von der Leyen highlighted that the occasion marked the formal commencement of negotiations on a new partnership and cooperation agreement. This agreement is designed to broaden and modernize the framework for the partnership between the EU and Bangladesh.
'As part of our enduring partnership with Bangladesh, the European Union is committed to working together to uphold and advance shared priorities such as democracy, human rights, and the rule of law that form the foundation of our relations,' affirmed the European Commission President, extending her best wishes to Prime Minister Hasina for every success in her role.
