BSF pushes over 1,100 people into Bangladesh in 24 days

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly pushed 1,143 individuals into Bangladesh across 18 districts between May 7 and May 31, according to sources within the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

Moulvibazar saw the highest number of such incidents, with 380 people reportedly forced across the border. Other significant figures were recorded in Khagrachhari (132), Sylhet (115), and Kurigram (93).
Additional districts affected include: Habiganj (41), Sunamganj (16), Cumilla (13), Feni (52), Lalmonirhat (85), Thakurgaon (19), Panchagarh (32), Dinajpur (15), Chapainawabganj (17), Kushtia (9), Meherpur (30), Chuadanga (19), Jhenaidah (52), and Satkhira (23).
The BGB has formally objected to these actions during several flag meetings with the BSF, raising both verbal and written protests.
According to the BGB, these pushbacks are in violation of border management agreements and established protocols between the two neighboring countries.
In response to the incidents, the BGB has increased patrols and stepped up intelligence-gathering efforts along vulnerable stretches of the border in an attempt to deter further unauthorized crossings, the agency said in an official statement.
