Bangladesh to open new missions in 5 countries to boost trade and diplomacy

Bangladesh is set to establish new diplomatic missions in five key international cities as part of efforts to expand its global presence, enhance trade relations, and provide better support for its expatriate communities.
According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the new missions are planned for Dublin (Ireland), Oslo (Norway), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Frankfurt (Germany), and São Paulo (Brazil).
Officials said the initiative is strategically important, especially as Bangladesh prepares to transition from its Least Developed Country (LDC) status and adapt to emerging global economic and political dynamics.
The foreign ministry sent a formal proposal to the Ministry of Finance on 2 June, requesting approval for necessary staffing and resources to operationalize the new missions. The proposal, signed by Assistant Secretary Abu Sumaiya, emphasized that establishing diplomatic posts in these locations would help Bangladesh explore new economic prospects and promote a more comprehensive foreign policy agenda.
The ministry highlighted that permanent diplomatic missions not only boost Bangladesh’s influence on international platforms but also provide stronger representation in the policymaking processes of host countries. Additionally, they play a critical role in building confidence among the Bangladeshi diaspora and strengthening cultural, political, and economic ties.
Currently, Bangladesh operates 84 diplomatic missions across 60 countries, according to official records.
