India supports democratic, stable and inclusive Bangladesh, says its envoy

India’s High Commissioner in Dhaka Pranay Verma has reaffirmed New Delhi’s support for a democratic, stable and inclusive Bangladesh, highlighting the importance of strong bilateral relations between the neighbouring countries.

Speaking while hosting an Iftar reception in the capital Dhaka, the envoy said India has consistently supported Bangladesh’s development and stability and will continue to stand by the country as a close partner in the region.
Verma emphasised that the relationship between India and Bangladesh is rooted in shared history, culture and geographic proximity. He recalled the sacrifices made during the Bangladesh Liberation War, saying the memory of the struggle continues to unite the people of both countries.
He added that cultural exchanges, cross-border trade and family links across the border have further strengthened the relationship over the decades.
The Iftar reception was attended by several senior leaders from Bangladesh’s government, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and minister for local government.
The Indian envoy said both countries, as dynamic and forward-looking societies, are well positioned to deepen cooperation for mutual prosperity and regional development.
He also extended his greetings to the people of Bangladesh during the holy month of Ramadan, expressing hope that the occasion would bring peace, prosperity and wellbeing to all.
