India keen to strengthen people-centric cooperation with Bangladesh
India has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening people-focused cooperation with Bangladesh across multiple sectors, with an emphasis on mutual benefit and long-term partnership.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma conveyed the message during a meeting with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon in Dhaka.
The discussions covered a broad range of issues, particularly cooperation in the information and broadcasting sector. Both sides explored ways to enhance collaboration between media institutions, recognising the role of journalism and communication in building stronger bilateral understanding.
A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to increase exchange visits of media professionals from both countries. Officials said such initiatives would help deepen people-to-people connections, encourage knowledge sharing and foster balanced narratives in cross-border reporting.
The Indian envoy also proposed expanding training opportunities for Bangladeshi journalists under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme. As part of this effort, a dedicated training course for women journalists from Bangladesh is expected to be launched soon in India, aiming to build professional skills and promote gender inclusion in the media sector.
In addition to media cooperation, both sides discussed cultural collaboration, including joint film screenings, festivals and partnerships in film production and post-production technologies. Such initiatives are seen as effective tools for strengthening cultural ties and showcasing shared heritage.
