India's arrogance pushed US closer to Pakistan

India's arrogance pushed US closer to Pakistan

Retired US Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt has suggested that the United States’ growing warmth toward Pakistan is partly the result of what he described as India’s “arrogant” attitude toward Washington.

His comments came during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where he noted that US President Donald Trump has forged an unusually close rapport with Pakistan’s military leadership.
According to Kimmitt, Trump’s friendly relationship with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is a direct consequence of strained US-India ties. “India’s arrogance that has been displayed to President Trump manifests itself in the fact that we are now becoming much closer to Pakistan,” Kimmitt remarked. He added that Trump and Munir now share what he described as a “bromance,” which he believes should serve as a warning sign for New Delhi.
Tensions Between Washington and New Delhi-
Relations between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi soured in recent month, especially after Trump repeatedly claimed that his administration averted a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan — a statement New Delhi flatly rejected. India has insisted that its ceasefire agreement with Pakistan was a bilateral arrangement, not the result of US intervention.
The rift deepened after a June 17 phone call between Trump and Modi, which followed the US president’s early departure from the G7 summit in Canada. The missed face-to-face meeting was seen in diplomatic circles as a setback, further complicating ties between the two leaders.
US-Pakistan Engagement on the Rise-
Meanwhile, Pakistan has capitalized on the cooling of US-India relations. In June 2025, Munir paid a high-profile visit to Washington, during which he held a rare one-on-one meeting with Trump at the White House Cabinet Room. The visit came amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions, sparked by Indian airstrikes inside Pakistani territory that New Delhi claimed targeted those behind the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Washington played a key role in brokering a ceasefire during that confrontation, underscoring the United States’ continuing influence in South Asia’s volatile security landscape.
Analysts believe Washington’s tilt toward Pakistan could have long-term strategic implications. While India remains a critical partner in the US strategy to counterbalance China, Trump’s personal diplomacy with Pakistan’s military leadership may recalibrate regional dynamics. Experts warn that if New Delhi continues to dismiss Washington’s concerns, it risks ceding diplomatic space to Islamabad at a time when great power competition is reshaping South Asia’s balance of power.
