Work together, stop genocide in Palestine: PM Hasina

Bangladesh's Premier Sheikh Hasina called upon the world community, including the Asia-Pacific region, to work together to stop continued genocide in Palestine.

During a press conference at her official residence, Ganabhaban, Sheikh Hasina underscored the importance of global cooperation in addressing the crisis in Palestine. She also appealed to Thailand for collaboration in expediting the repatriation of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals, specifically the Rohingya community, back to their homeland. These remarks were made as part of her official visit to Thailand from April 24th to 29th.
'In light of the evolving global landscape, characterized by events such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the atrocities in Palestine perpetrated by Israel, it is imperative that we bolster regional cooperation and communication,' emphasized Premier Hasina. 'The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped our world, emphasizing the need for stronger ties with our neighbors and a concerted effort towards socio-economic development.'
Prime Minister Hasina emphasized the significance of regional cooperation bodies such as ASEAN and BIMSTEC, stressing the need for greater attention and collaboration among member states.
Reflecting on her recent visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Hasina highlighted its significance as her government's first bilateral engagement since assuming office. She emphasized the broader implications of the visit, emphasizing the importance of fostering cooperation and development opportunities. "Our focus is on enhancing cooperation, communication, and the exchange of ideas and experiences with neighboring countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia," she stated.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed Bangladesh's interest in learning from Thailand's advancements in food and agricultural production, as well as their expertise in business, commerce, and tourism. She also emphasized Bangladesh's willingness to provide opportunities for collaboration, citing the country's natural assets such as the world's longest unbroken sea beach.
The prime minister's visit to Bangkok, at the invitation of her Thai counterpart Srettha Thavisin, marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations, underscoring Bangladesh's commitment to its 'neighbor' policy. The visit culminated in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding, signaling a deepening of ties between the two nations. These included agreements on visa exemption, energy cooperation, customs matters, tourism cooperation, and the commencement of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement by 2024.
Premier Hasina returned to Dhaka on Monday morning, affirming her government's dedication to fostering stronger regional partnerships and collaboration for mutual prosperity and development.
