Quad ministers condemn attack in Indian Kashmir without naming Pakistan

The Quad nations—comprising the United States, India, Japan, and Australia—issued a unified call for swift justice against those responsible for a deadly militant assault in Indian-administered Kashmir. The April 22 attack claimed 26 lives.

This incident ignited intense clashes between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, marking the latest flare-up in their long-standing rivalry. India attributed the attack to Pakistan, which, in turn, denied involvement and advocated for an impartial investigation.
Following a meeting in Washington, the foreign ministers of the Quad group released a joint statement via the US State Department. Notably, the statement refrained from explicitly naming or blaming Pakistan.
"The Quad unequivocally condemns all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism," the ministers declared.
They urged all UN member states to actively collaborate with "all relevant authorities" to ensure that the "perpetrators, organizers, and financiers of this reprehensible act" are brought to justice without delay.
India holds increasing significance as a US partner in Washington's strategy to counter China's growing influence in Asia, while Pakistan remains a US ally.
Meanwhile, on Monday, India's foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, reiterated that trade was not a factor in the ceasefire. He commented on relations with the United States, stating, "Relationships will never be free of issues. What matters is the ability to deal with it and to keep that trend going in the positive direction."
