Bangladesh eyes manpower export to Uzbekistan

Bangladesh is looking to expand its overseas labor market by sending skilled and semi-skilled workers to Uzbekistan, following fresh commitments between Dhaka and Tashkent to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov on Friday, held on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York.
Officials said one of the key outcomes of the talks was the signing of a visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic passports, a move expected to ease official travel and lay the groundwork for broader diplomatic and economic engagement.
Both sides also pledged to explore new avenues of cooperation in trade, investment, higher education, and regional connectivity. Bangladesh highlighted its interest in tapping into Uzbekistan’s demand for foreign labor, stressing that Bangladeshi workers could contribute to the Central Asian country’s fast-developing economy, particularly in construction, services, and industry.
The foreign adviser also pointed to the potential of academic partnerships, encouraging opportunities for Bangladeshi students to study in Uzbek universities, while noting that cultural and educational exchanges could deepen people-to-people links.
For Uzbekistan, which is diversifying its economy and seeking stronger ties with South Asia, closer cooperation with Bangladesh could provide access to one of the world’s largest labor-exporting nations as well as a rapidly growing consumer market.
