US, Bangladesh explore expanding collaboration in energy sector

The United States and Bangladesh are exploring ways to expand cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on strengthening supplies, modernising infrastructure and supporting Bangladesh’s growing power demand.

In a statement on Sunday, the US Embassy in Dhaka said American companies are well positioned to support Bangladesh through onshore energy exploration, upgrades to the national electricity grid and the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). These solutions, the embassy noted, can help ensure stable and reliable energy for households and businesses across the country.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen held talks with Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, during which both sides discussed expanding the role of US firms in Bangladesh’s energy transition. The discussions covered potential investments, technology transfer and long-term cooperation to improve efficiency and resilience in the power sector.
Bangladesh has been seeking diversified energy sources and foreign investment as it grapples with rising demand, fuel import costs and the need to modernise ageing infrastructure. Officials have also highlighted the importance of cleaner energy options and improved grid management to support industrial growth.
The meeting comes amid broader efforts by Washington and Dhaka to deepen economic and commercial ties, including in strategic sectors such as energy, where US companies have previously been involved in power generation, gas exploration and energy services in Bangladesh.
