More than 200,000 Afghans have left Pakistan since April: Islamabad

More than 200,000 Afghan nationals have left Pakistan since the government intensified its deportation campaign in April, according to Pakistan's Ministry of Interior.

In April alone, over 135,000 Afghans exited the country, followed by 67,000 in May. An additional 3,000 were repatriated during the first two days of June, the ministry reported.
Afghans have sought refuge in Pakistan for decades, escaping ongoing conflict and instability in their homeland. The number surged further after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021.
Since the introduction of Pakistan's formal repatriation initiative in 2023, over one million Afghans have returned home, the ministry stated.
Meanwhile, the UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM) raised concerns on Tuesday about the growing number of Afghan families being expelled from Iran. In May, more than 15,600 Afghans crossed back into Afghanistan from Iran—a figure more than double that of the previous month.
