Six dead in suicide bombing in Pakistan

A coordinated suicide attack on the headquarters of Pakistan’s Federal Constabulary in Peshawar left six people dead on Monday, including three security personnel.

Authorities said three suicide bombers armed with automatic weapons attempted to storm the paramilitary complex, located in a heavily fortified zone of the north-western city. The attackers were intercepted at the main gate following two powerful explosions that shook the surrounding neighbourhood at around 8:10am local time. Security officials engaged them before they were able to enter the main facility.
Police confirmed that all three attackers were killed on the spot, describing the assault as part of a “foiled terrorist plot” aimed at inflicting mass casualties. The injured include five security personnel and seven civilians who were caught in the blasts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and called for swift identification and prosecution of those involved. “The perpetrators of this incident should be identified as soon as possible and brought to justice,” he said, adding that Pakistan’s security forces would continue efforts to dismantle militant networks operating in the region.
The Federal Constabulary—formerly the Frontier Constabulary—plays a key role in Pakistan’s internal security, including assisting police in countering armed groups, managing tribal area incursions, and tackling organised criminal networks. Its Peshawar headquarters is considered a sensitive installation due to its proximity to other government and military facilities.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan, has faced a resurgence of militant activity in recent years. The Pakistani Taliban, or Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), remains active in the region and has claimed responsibility for several major attacks targeting security forces in the past.
