Pakistan efforts to stop Iran war are reaching ‘critical' stage

Pakistan’s diplomatic push to help end the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran has reached a “critical and sensitive” stage, according to Iran's Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam. In a statement shared on social media, the envoy described Islamabad’s efforts as 'positive and productive'.

Pakistan has emerged as a key intermediary in recent weeks, maintaining communication channels with both Washington and Tehran while coordinating with regional partners. Officials say the country’s neutral stance, combined with its strategic ties across the region, has positioned it as a credible facilitator for dialogue.
The mediation comes amid intensified hostilities, including missile exchanges, airstrikes and rising tensions in critical areas such as the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. The conflict has already disrupted oil markets, increased shipping risks and heightened fears of a broader regional escalation.
Diplomatic sources indicate that Pakistan has been working closely with Gulf states and other international actors to encourage confidence-building measures, including temporary ceasefire proposals and indirect talks. Analysts suggest that progress at this stage could pave the way for formal negotiations between the rival sides.
However, significant challenges remain. Deep mistrust between Iran and the United States, as well as ongoing military operations, continue to complicate efforts to reach an agreement. Observers warn that even minor setbacks could derail fragile diplomatic gains.
