The 82-year-old former President of the United States Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an advanced and aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, according to a statement released by his office on Sunday.

The diagnosis was made on Friday following Biden's report of urinary issues. He and his family are now working closely with medical professionals to explore available treatment options.
'Though this is a particularly aggressive type of prostate cancer, it is hormone-sensitive, which offers a path for effective treatment,' the statement noted.
When prostate cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it is classified as Stage 4—the most severe stage of the disease. Most cases are typically identified much earlier.
During his presidency from 2021 to 2025, Biden’s health and cognitive abilities were often discussed in the public sphere. He unexpectedly withdrew from the 2024 reelection race last July, shortly after a debate performance against Republican Donald Trump raised concerns among Democratic supporters.
Despite their longstanding political rivalry, Trump offered words of sympathy to Biden and his wife, Jill, in a message shared on his platform, Truth Social.
Biden's medical team reported a Gleason score of 9 out of 10, indicating a highly aggressive form of prostate cancer based on the commonly used grading scale.
