Russia confirms Putin-Trump summit August 15 in Alaska

The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will hold their first in-person talks since Trump’s return to the White House on August 15 in Alaska.

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told reporters in Moscow on Saturday that both sides had agreed on the venue, citing Alaska’s proximity to Russia across the Bering Strait as a practical choice.
“Russia and the United States are close neighbors with a shared border. It seems quite logical for our delegation to fly across the Bering Strait for such an important and anticipated summit,” Ushakov said.
Trump had earlier announced the meeting on his Truth Social account, confirming the date and location. The summit will be the first face-to-face engagement between the two leaders since Trump began his second term in January.
According to Ushakov, the talks will focus heavily on finding pathways to a lasting peace in Ukraine, alongside discussions on Arctic cooperation, trade, and potential joint projects in energy and infrastructure. He described Alaska and the broader Arctic region as a “natural intersection of Russian and American interests” with room for “large-scale bilateral initiatives.”
Preparations for the meeting are already underway, with both governments engaged in intensive coordination. Ushakov acknowledged that organizing the summit was “a challenging process” given the geopolitical climate.
The Kremlin has also signaled that it expects the next round of presidential talks to take place in Russia.
