'World cannot afford' India-Pakistan confrontation: UN

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over India’s recent military strikes inside Pakistani territory, according to his spokesperson.
Speaking on Tuesday, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the Secretary-General is “very concerned” about the Indian operations across the Line of Control and the international border, urging both nations to exercise maximum military restraint. “A military conflict between India and Pakistan is something the world simply cannot afford,” Dujarric stated.
Guterres noted that tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors have reached their most critical level in years. He reiterated that military action is not a solution and offered the UN's assistance to both governments in reducing hostilities and fostering dialogue.
The latest escalation follows a deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir, on April 22.
