Trump approves Iran attack plan but has not made final decision

US President Donald Trump has approved a military plan targeting Iran but has yet to issue the final order, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

The report, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, stated that Trump is waiting to see whether Tehran will agree to abandon its nuclear program before moving forward. Among the possible targets is Iran’s Fordow uranium enrichment facility, which is located deep within a mountain, potentially requiring the deployment of the most advanced US weaponry to strike it.
Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Trump said he had not yet decided whether the US military would join Israel’s current offensive against Iran. “I may do it. I may not do it,” he remarked from the Oval Office.
“I don’t want war. I’m not seeking conflict. But if it’s a choice between stopping them from getting a nuclear weapon and fighting, then you have to do what’s necessary—and maybe we won’t have to fight,” Trump added. “I have my own ideas, and I like making decisions at the last possible moment.”
He indicated that a decision could come soon, saying the coming week would be “very big” in determining the US response.
Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected Washington’s call for unconditional surrender and warned that any direct American involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict would lead to "irreparable consequences."
“The Zionist regime has committed a grave mistake and will face its repercussions,” Khamenei declared in a televised speech.
Khamenei also condemned recent Israeli strikes and vowed not to forgive violations of Iranian airspace or the deaths of Iranian personnel, whom he referred to as “martyrs.”
Tensions in the region have escalated sharply since Friday when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, triggering retaliatory missile attacks from Iran.
According to Israeli officials, at least 24 people have been killed and hundreds injured in Iran’s strikes. Iranian media, meanwhile, reported that 585 people have been killed and over 1,300 wounded in Israeli attacks on Iran.
