Cyclone Hamoon: At least 3 dead and inflicts damage in Bangladesh

Cyclone Hamoon made landfall in Bangladesh during the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in at least three casualties and numerous injuries. The authorities had evacuated over 100,000 individuals in anticipation of the cyclone's arrival.

Bangladesh's Disaster Management Department head Mizanur Rahman reported, 'So far, we have received news of three deaths from the impact of the cyclone, all in Cox's Bazar district. We are now waiting for details and assessing the extent of the damage.'
Officials from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department noted that it took nearly seven hours for the cyclone to traverse the country after its leading edge began affecting the coastline around 6 PM local time on Tuesday.
Accompanied by strong winds, the cyclone caused significant damage, including the destruction of house roofs, uprooted trees, and damaged electricity poles, particularly in the island areas of coastal Cox's Bazar district, which is home to nearly one million Rohingya refugees.
Although the initial plan was to evacuate 1.5 million people, authorities managed to evacuate more than 110,000 individuals to various cyclone shelters, primarily in the southeastern districts of Chittagong and Cox's Bazar.
Cyclone Hamoon is the second cyclone to form in the Bay of Bengal this year, following Cyclone Mocha in May, which resulted in the destruction of thousands of homes. In May 2020, the super cyclone Amphan led to over a hundred fatalities between Bangladesh and India, marking one of the most severe natural disasters of its kind in recent years.
