Chinese envoy meets PM Tarique Rahman
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday morning at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat.
The meeting began around 11:00am, according to Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon. During the call, the ambassador congratulated Tarique on assuming office and presented him with a bouquet, conveying Beijing’s goodwill and readiness to work with the new administration.
Diplomatic sources said the discussions touched on strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, infrastructure development, investment and connectivity projects. China is one of Bangladesh’s largest development partners and a key source of foreign direct investment, with ongoing collaboration in power generation, transport networks and special economic zones.
BNP Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Adviser Humayun Kabir was also present at the meeting, which officials described as cordial and forward-looking. The engagement comes amid Dhaka’s efforts to maintain balanced relations with major global partners while prioritising national development goals.
