Bangladesh's Army chief calls on chief adviser before departure

Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman has paid a farewell visit to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.

The courtesy meeting took place at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, according to an official press release. During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged greetings and reflected on key developments that occurred during their time in office, including the recently concluded national parliamentary election.
Yunus expressed appreciation for the role played by the Bangladesh Armed Forces, particularly in maintaining stability and assisting civil authorities during the general election. He thanked Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman for ensuring that the military carried out its responsibilities with professionalism and neutrality at a time when the country was undergoing a sensitive political transition.
The armed forces were deployed in aid of civil administration to support law enforcement agencies, oversee logistical coordination and help maintain law and order during polling. Officials said their presence contributed to a peaceful environment in most parts of the country.
Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman, in turn, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to upholding the constitution and supporting democratic institutions.
The farewell call comes amid broader discussions about institutional cooperation between civilian authorities and the armed forces. Observers say the meeting underscored the importance of civil-military coordination in safeguarding stability, especially during periods of political change.
