Chinese vice foreign minister to visit Dhaka next month

Sun Weidong will visit Dhaka on April 2–3 to lead Beijing’s delegation to the 14th round of diplomatic consultations between China and Bangladesh, officials said.

The visit was confirmed by Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen during a courtesy meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Thursday, according to an official statement.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir also attended the meeting.
During the discussion, Ambassador Yao briefed the Bangladeshi side on preparations for the upcoming 14th Bangladesh-China Diplomatic Consultations.
Officials said the consultations serve as one of the most important institutional platforms for reviewing and guiding bilateral relations between the two countries.
The upcoming meeting is expected to examine the full range of cooperation between Dhaka and Beijing, including trade, investment, infrastructure development, technology transfer, and regional connectivity.
Diplomats noted that the talks may also focus on expanding collaboration under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, through which several large-scale infrastructure projects in Bangladesh have been financed or constructed with Chinese support.
During his stay in Bangladesh, Vice Foreign Minister Sun is also expected to hold meetings with senior government officials and other high-level dignitaries to discuss ways to deepen strategic and economic cooperation.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman acknowledged China’s long-standing support for Bangladesh’s development and economic growth, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, energy, and industrial investment. He expressed hope that the vice minister’s visit would further strengthen bilateral engagement and provide fresh momentum to Bangladesh-China relations following the formation of the country’s new government.
China remains one of Bangladesh’s largest trading partners and a key development partner, with bilateral trade steadily increasing and cooperation expanding across multiple sectors in recent years.
