Russian naval ships begin 4-day goodwill visit in Ctg Port
Two warships of the Russian Navy arrived at Chattogram Port on Monday for a four-day goodwill visit, signaling renewed maritime cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia.
The vessels, Rezkiy and Sovershenny, were received by senior officials of the Bangladesh Navy, including the chief staff officer of the commander of the Chattogram Naval Area.
According to an official statement, representatives from the Russian diplomatic mission in Dhaka, including defence attachés, were also present at the ceremony. As the ships entered Bangladesh’s maritime boundary, they were formally greeted by BNS Omar Faruk, reflecting established naval protocol and mutual respect between the two forces.
During their stay, the commanding officers of the visiting ships, accompanied by the Russian deputy head of mission, are scheduled to hold courtesy meetings with key Bangladeshi naval and port officials. These include the commander of the Chattogram Naval Area, the superintendent of the dockyard and the chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority.
The visit will also include cultural and professional engagements. Russian sailors are set to tour the Bangladesh Naval Academy, where they will pay tribute at Redkin Point, a memorial dedicated to Russian sailor Yu V Redkin. They are also expected to visit naval training facilities, operational ships and prominent sites across Chattogram.
In parallel, Bangladesh Navy personnel will board the visiting Russian vessels to exchange technical knowledge and operational experiences. Officials say such interactions help strengthen interoperability, enhance maritime security cooperation and build trust between the two countries’ naval forces.
The visit highlights growing defence ties between Dhaka and Moscow, particularly in training, logistics and technical collaboration. The Russian ships are scheduled to depart Bangladesh waters on March 27.
