Italian PM Giorgia Meloni likely to visit Bangladesh in August

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is likely to make an official visit to Bangladesh in the final week of August, as both nations look to deepen their partnership in key sectors and enhance bilateral ties.

Diplomatic sources have confirmed that officials from both sides are actively coordinating to ensure the visit is productive and well-organized.
Earlier this month, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi visited Dhaka and shared Italy’s intent to recruit more Bangladeshi workers. He emphasized Rome's commitment to promoting safe and regulated migration pathways.
According to officials, Minister Piantedosi informed Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus that Prime Minister Meloni is expected to visit Bangladesh before September. The planned visit reflects Italy’s desire to revitalize and expand its cooperation with Bangladesh.
Chief Adviser Yunus welcomed Italy’s initiative and reiterated Bangladesh’s interest in partnering with Rome to combat irregular migration and human trafficking.
Last year, during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Meloni and Yunus held a meeting on the sidelines of the high-level discussions. During that exchange, Meloni expressed Italy’s continued support for Bangladesh’s reform efforts and its broader aim of improving the nation’s social and economic well-being.
