Tensions flare at India-Bangladesh border over repatriation effort
A tense situation unfolded on Tuesday along the India-Bangladesh border near Thakurbari in Assam’s Mankachar region, following a standoff between India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh’s Border Guard (BGB).
According to security officials, tensions heightened when BGB personnel, accompanied by an increasing number of Bangladeshi civilians, disrupted the repatriation process close to the zero line—a buffer zone that is traditionally regarded as neutral ground between the two nations.
The confrontation quickly escalated, with verbal altercations exchanged between the two forces. In a subsequent statement, the BSF characterized the incident as part of a larger infiltration concern.
As of now, both Indian and Bangladeshi authorities have not confirmed any formal diplomatic protest or escalation beyond the border face-off.
