Bangladesh's interim leader Yunus aims to bridge South Asia and ASEAN

Bangladesh’s interim government leader Muhammad Yunus on Thursday outlined his vision for his country to act as a strategic bridge between South Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), fostering deeper regional cooperation and stability amid global geopolitical uncertainties.
Delivering a keynote address at the prestigious Future of Asia conference hosted by Nikkei in Tokyo, Yunus emphasized the importance of building stronger ties among Asian economies, especially during a time of increasing fragmentation and tension in international politics and trade.
Muhammad Yunus highlighted Bangladesh’s geographic location as a natural gateway between the two blocs and noted the country’s growing infrastructure capabilities, including seaports, connectivity projects, and regional trade initiatives.
Yunus also underscored the significance of trans-regional cooperation in areas such as climate resilience, digital transformation, and supply chain integration. “We are ready to act as a facilitator of dialogue and progress, not only for our immediate neighbors but for the broader Asian region,” he added.
The Future of Asia conference, held annually in Tokyo, brings together political leaders, business executives, and scholars to discuss the direction of the region.
