Bangladesh, China and Pakistan pledge to deepen trilateral cooperation

Bangladesh, China and Pakistan have expressed their commitment to enhancing trilateral cooperation during an informal meeting held on the sidelines of the 9th China-South Asia Exposition and the 6th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum in Kunming on 19 June.

Leading their respective delegations were Bangladesh’s Acting Foreign Secretary Md Ruhul Alam Siddique, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, and Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, according to an official press release.
In the meeting, the three countries engaged in discussions on ways to promote closer collaboration based on mutual trust, understanding, and a shared vision for regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
They identified several potential sectors for deeper cooperation, including infrastructure development, regional connectivity, trade and investment, healthcare, agriculture, maritime cooperation, information and communication technology (ICT), disaster management, and climate change.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and cooperation, the three sides agreed to advance their partnership guided by the principles of openness, good neighborly relations, and mutual benefit.
Highlighting the shared participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Bangladesh’s acting foreign secretary noted that the three nations could align their national development goals with the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda to achieve greater regional progress.
He also underscored the importance of building a strong trilateral partnership to bring tangible benefits to their citizens and contribute to improving living standards across the region.
