Heavy rains and floods kill 32 in Pakistan in two days

Torrential rains and flash floods have claimed at least 32 lives across Pakistan over the past two days, affecting multiple provinces and causing widespread destruction, according to rescue teams and disaster management authorities.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two more fatalities were reported on Saturday, following 17 rain-related deaths a day earlier. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed one person drowned in Charsadda due to rising river levels, while a woman named Jan Ferroza was killed in a landslide in Shangla's Dhok area.
The PDMA also reported that 56 homes were damaged in the region—50 partially and six completely destroyed.
In Punjab, five people, including three children, lost their lives and 20 others were injured on Saturday, primarily due to roof collapses caused by heavy rainfall. According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmad, a collapsed roof in Lahore’s Shahdra area resulted in two child fatalities and injuries to four others. In Faisalabad, a four-year-old was killed in a similar incident, while in Gujranwala, a 55-year-old man died when a wooden roof gave way. In another tragic incident, a woman lost her life after falling into a drain in Attock.
In Balochistan’s Zhob district, four members of a family drowned in a flash flood while traveling from Quetta to Multan. The family had stopped to rest at a picnic spot in Salyazah when a sudden flood, triggered by heavy rainfall in nearby mountains, swept them away.
"Six people were caught in the flood; rescue teams managed to save two—a woman and the driver—but the remaining four could not be rescued," Zhob Assistant Commissioner Naveed Alam told Dawn.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as more rain is expected in several areas, raising concerns about further flooding and casualties.
