SpaceX wants to launch satellite internet service in Bangladesh

The renowned US-based company SpaceX led by Elon Musk, has expressed its interest in launching its satellite internet service, Starlink, in Bangladesh.

To pursue this endeavor, officials from SpaceX, including Joel Meredith, manager for global government affairs, and Parnil Urdhwareshe, manager for global licensing and activation, met with key representatives from the Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) and the ICT Division.
Confirming the meeting, Shahjahan Mahmood, Chairman of BSCL, stated that SpaceX conveyed their intention to operate the Starlink service in Bangladesh. However, he emphasized that the final approval lies in the hands of the government. Given the presence of established local mobile operators and internet service providers (ISPs) offering data services, granting approval may pose a challenge.
During the meeting, SpaceX officials showcased a demonstration of Starlink's internet capabilities, highlighting its impressive download speed of approximately 500mbps, as experienced by Mahmood during his morning use. Notably, the Starlink service holds promise for delivering internet connectivity to remote areas where traditional fiber optic infrastructure is not readily available.
SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service is already operational in over 70 countries, facilitated by the presence of approximately 4,519 Starlink satellites currently in orbit. If approved, Bangladesh could potentially benefit from enhanced connectivity and accessibility, especially in regions that currently face challenges in accessing reliable internet services.
