Arab-OIC summit warns Israel of consequences of its attacks

Leaders from across the Arab and Islamic world convened in Doha on Monday for an emergency summit, where they issued a stark warning to Israel over its recent attacks on Qatar.

The gathering, hosted by Qatar and backed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), cautioned that Israeli actions threatened to ignite wider instability across the Middle East unless urgently addressed.
In a strongly worded final communiqué, carried by Qatar’s state news agency QNA, the summit condemned the strikes on Doha and reaffirmed “full solidarity” with Qatar. Delegates argued that Israel’s military escalation was not only a direct assault on a sovereign state but also an attempt to redraw the region’s political map by force. Such aggression, they stressed, “destroys any prospects for peace and constitutes a grave danger to regional and international security.”
The leaders underscored that a lasting resolution in the Middle East cannot be achieved by sidelining the Palestinian issue. “Peace will never be realized by bypassing the Palestinian cause, ignoring the rights of its people, or targeting mediators,” the statement said. Instead, it reiterated support for the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, alongside relevant UN resolutions, as the only credible path forward.
The summit urged the United Nations Security Council and the broader international community to “assume their moral and legal responsibilities” by ending Israel’s decades-long occupation and establishing a binding timeline for withdrawal. It also threw its weight behind ongoing mediation led by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States aimed at halting the Gaza offensive.
Beyond Gaza, the leaders expressed alarm at Israeli plans to annex occupied Palestinian territories, warning of “catastrophic consequences” should such moves proceed. They described annexation as a flagrant violation of international law and an assault on the historical and legal rights of the Palestinian people.
The communiqué went further than past Arab-Islamic declarations, calling for practical measures to raise the cost of Israeli actions. These included sanctions, suspension of arms and dual-use material transfers, a reassessment of diplomatic and economic ties, and pursuing legal accountability through international courts. The summit even urged OIC member states to review Israel’s status at the United Nations, suggesting coordinated efforts to suspend its membership over repeated violations of the UN Charter.
In a notable move, the leaders tasked OIC countries that are parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC) with enforcing arrest warrants issued in November 2024 against individuals accused of crimes against Palestinians. They also pressed for compliance with the International Court of Justice’s provisional measures, ordered in January 2024, in the case accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza.
Finally, the summit endorsed the Arab League’s recent ministerial resolution on a shared vision for regional security, one that promotes collective defense, mutual cooperation, and joint action against common threats.
The Doha summit made clear that Israel’s continued defiance will not only deepen Palestinian suffering but could also trigger far-reaching consequences for the region’s security architecture. Leaders warned that without decisive international intervention, the Middle East may slide into a prolonged crisis with global repercussions.
