Bangladesh-US begin second round tariff negotiations in Washington

The United States and Bangladesh have commenced their second round of discussions in Washington, D.C., focusing on a proposed Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff. These crucial talks began today (9 July) and are scheduled to conclude on July 11th.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) extended the invitation to Bangladesh, making it one of the initial countries to re-engage in such discussions. This follows a letter issued by President Donald Trump on July 7th to the leaders of 14 nations impacted by the newly implemented tariff regulations. This re-engagement underscores the importance both countries place on resolving trade-related issues.
Leading Bangladesh's delegation in person is Sheikh Bashiruddin, the commerce adviser to the Bangladesh government, as confirmed by CA Press Wing. Further demonstrating the high-level engagement from Bangladesh, National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman is expected to participate virtually from Dhaka. Senior officials, including the Commerce Secretary and an Additional Commerce Secretary, are also on-site in the US capital to contribute to these significant negotiations.
Sources within Bangladesh's Commerce Ministry indicate that the nation's objective is to leverage the positive momentum from the inaugural round of talks on June 27th. Both sides characterized those initial discussions as "fruitful," setting a constructive tone for this current round. These negotiations are vital for shaping the future trade relationship between Bangladesh and the United States, potentially impacting various sectors and industries in both countries.
